DSI Infrastructures & Labs: 21 tools for research
A chatbot platform for interviews, a data hub on urban inequality, a place to get hands on technology: the DSI Infrastructures & Labs comprise 21 projects. The fifth impact of our anniversary series makes them accessible in an interactive graphic.
Interdisciplinary research takes more than good intentions. It takes shared tools. That is what the Digital Society Initiative (DSI) provides with its Infrastructures & Labs: platforms, tools and structural frameworks open to researchers from a wide range of faculties. Funded by the Digitalization Initiative of the Zurich Higher Education Institutions (DIZH), they cover a broad spectrum – from health data and urban infrastructures to media research, sustainability and the future of work.
Much of this starts where established methods reach their limits. A few examples: the MEEET Lab is a physical space where researchers, students and the public experience and question technologies together, from the typewriter to virtual reality. RAI provides biomedical researchers with statistical uncertainty intervals for their AI models – a step towards responsible use of AI in medicine. The Urban Data Hub closes a data gap that national statistics alone cannot cover. And the Z-Pool-Tool makes the participant pools of the DIZH universities visible across institutions for the first time, simplifying recruitment in line with data protection standards.
