Position paper with recommendations on quantum technology published

The fifth DSI Strategy Lab focuses on quantum technology. It evaluates the state of quantum technologies and possible future scenarios and formulates recommendations. The results of the Strategy Lab are now available in the newly published position paper.

The discovery of quantum mechanics took place 100 years ago. In light of this anniversary and the United Nations' «International Year of Quantum Science and Technology», the Digital Society Initiative (DSI) at the University of Zurich (UZH) held its fifth DSI Strategy Lab on this topic.

The fifth Strategy Lab is set out evaluate the status and possible futures of quantum technologies and formulate recommendations which decisions need to be taken now – by industry, politics and in education – to be optimally prepared for these future scenarios and to promote the desirable ones.

The findings of the fifth Strategy Lab are now summarized in a newly published position paper. It seeks to provide a realistic overview of anticipated technological developments and their societal implications. The focus is on computing, communication, and sensing. The position paper makes three concrete policy recommendations to bolster Switzerlandʼs role in the evolving global quantum landscape.

The position paper will also be presented at the UZH's Quantum Century Symposium  on June 27.
