Digital Society Initiative

2nd International Conference Women in Big Data

Women from academia and industry met on 20 and 21 June 2019 in Zurich for the second workshop “Women in Big Data”

The NRP75 project Women in Big Data has been part of the Digital Society Initiative since March 2019. This year, the international and interdisciplinary WiBD workshop took place at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel in Zurich and gathered 65 women from 10 different countries who are involved in Big Data research.
The program consisted of keynotes, invited talks, panel discussions and short talks and poster sessions. This mixture provided the participants with the opportunity to present and discuss their research, as well as to network and to get to know each other in a professional yet relaxed setting. A variety of topics were covered, including machine learning, automated decision making, data ethics, careers challenges and diversity beyond gender.
