The future of higher didactics series: Designing effective and engaging learning environments with augmented reality

The DSI Community Education launches «The Future of Higher Didactics» event series. It is an informative and hands-on workshop series designed to inspire educators, researchers, administrators, and anyone passionate about higher learning. Through these workshops, we aim to foster discussions, share insights, and envision the next era of higher education.

The first workshop «Designing effective and engaging learning environments with augmented reality»  will be led by Dr. Josef Buchner, the head of research and development at St. Gallen University of Teacher Education. Augmented reality (AR) has the potential to enhance learning experiences by promoting motivation and interest. However, research has shown that learning with AR can be challenging and cognitively demanding. Thus, first, Dr. Buchner will give an overview of effective instructional design principles for learning with AR. Next, participants will have the opportunity to test (educational) AR materials, reflect on their potential for learning, and generate ideas on how AR can be effectively used in teaching.
