AI & Law Lecture Series: From Formalism to Relational Accountability in Complex Computing Environments
The guest lecture by Bilge Kaan Güner (Lawyer, Consultant and Doctoral Researcher at the University of Tübingen, Faculty at Law) examines the limits of formal legal responsibility under the GDPR when technology producers shape data protection by design (DPbD) without being directly regulated as controllers or processors.
It explores how this gap creates a structural tension between providers and data controllers, and how complementary frameworks, such as the AI Act, Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and NIS2 Directive, might recalibrate accountability. The discussion considers whether Recital 78 GDPR could function as a bridge clause, enabling a more relational and systemic understanding of accountability in complex computing environments.
The participants will have the chance to ask questions and engage in active discussion. The event will be followed by an Apéro for networking.
