DSI Professor and Full Professor in the Department of Informatics at the University of Zurich, where he heads the Data Systems and Theory group.
Dan's research bridges database systems, database theory, and AI – tackling fundamental computational challenges in data processing and designing scalable solutions for machine learning over relational data. Over two decades, his contributions have shaped how we think about probabilistic databases, in-database machine learning, and incremental analytics.
With a career spanning Oxford (where he remains a visiting professor), UC Berkeley, the Alan Turing Institute, and industry roles at LogicBlox and RelationalAI, Dan brings a rare combination of theoretical depth and real-world impact to Zurich.
