Prof. Dr. Karin Schwiter
DSI Professor and Assistant Professor of Labour Geography with a focus on digitalization at the Faculty of Science at the University of Zurich.
Karin's research bridges labour geography, digital transformation, and gender studies – investigating how inequalities in labor markets are legitimized and maintained, with a particular focus on precarious work such as cleaning and care work in private households.
Her vision speaks directly to the urgency of this work:
«Digitalization and AI are rapidly transforming the world of work. My research group aims at developing solutions so that fewer workers are left behind.»
In 2025, the European Research Council awarded Karin an Advanced Grant of 2.5 million euros for her newest research project on underemployment – a testament to the relevance and ambition of her work.
