Prof. Dr. Gemma Newlands
DSI Professor and Assistant Professor in the Sociology of Societal Digitalization at the University of Zurich.
Gemma's research bridges organizational sociology, digital labor, and artificial intelligence – with a sharp focus on how AI is transforming the world of work. Her team investigates how digital technologies reshape decision-making, socio-organizational processes, and lived work experiences, with particular attention to augmentation, transparency, and the temporal trade-offs that come with human-AI collaboration.
With a PhD from the University of Amsterdam, research experience at the Oxford Internet Institute, and a background at the Nordic Centre for Internet and Society, Gemma brings a rich international perspective to one of today's most consequential questions: what does it mean to work alongside AI?
