Roland's research bridges media studies, visual culture, and digital technology – exploring how networked image cultures evolve under the conditions of global platforms, mobile media, and big visual data. From the history of facial recognition to image forensics, augmented spaces, and generative AI, his work asks what digital images do – and what they mean for society.
