9th Apéro Philo: An Anthropocentric Approach to Nature?
How do humans perceive nature? What does nature mean in today’s hyper digitalised world? How should universities design environmentally relevant degree programs? The word «nature» has become a socially, culturally, and ethically loaded term. From an anthropocentric perspective, it serves a purpose for humans, such as providing ecosystem services. This is also the perspective propagated in university education, such as the discipline of environmental engineering.
In collaboration with the ZHAW School of Life Sciences and Facility Management and The BRIDGE Lab, this event explores different approaches to nature, such as a biocentric one, in which all sentient beings are granted the right to habitat and integrity by virtue of their inherent value.
